UNAMID Deputy Joint Special Representative, attends Medal Parade in Nyala, Sector South
UNAMID Deputy Joint Special Representative (DJSR), Mr. Henry Anyidoho, attended a medal parade organized in honor of the Bangladeshi Formed Police Unit (FPUs) in Nyala, Sector South.
Bangladesh was the first Country to contribute Formed Police Units to the African Union-United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID). The unit which is based in Nyala, Sector South, arrived in Darfur in November 2007.
FPUs serving with UNAMID are specialized, self-sufficient and fully mobile rapid reaction police units, serving with UNAMID. They are entirely composed of police elements from a single contingent, with expertise in crowd-management and other police tactical operations.
Bangladeshi also contributes individual police officers to UNAMID.
