NDJAMENA, Chad, November 12, 2008/African Press Organization (APO)/ — A high level mission led by Lt Gen Chikadibia Isaac Obiakor, Military Advisor of the UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations, will visit Chad from 12 to 14 November 2008, to hold consultations with national authorities on the military concept of operations for the UN Mission in Central African Republic and Chad (MINURCAT) in light of the departure of EUFOR in March next year.

During the three-day visit, Lt Gen Obiakor and his delegation will exchange views regarding a possible UN military presence in Chad with the Special Representative of the President of the Republic, and the Ministers of External Relations and Defense.

The UN Military Advisor will also travel to Abeche and Farchana in eastern Chad to witness first hand the deployment of MINURCAT, and visit EUFOR premises.

In its Resolution 1834 adopted last September, the Security Council expressed its intention to authorize the deployment of a UN military component to follow up EUFOR’s presence in both Chad and Central African Republic.
