Police Training in Sector West

UNAMID Police in Sector West Headquarters, in collaboration with the Training unit, is currently preparing to conduct a training course designed for Sudanese Movement Police on Basic Police Training, including law enforcement, human rights, community policing, child protection and protection of women. The course will be held from 9 November to 27 November 2008 and is expected to be attended by 90 local police officers.

 

 

Car-jacking in Sector South

 

UNAMID Sector South highlighted an increase in the number of vehicles car-jacked by armed elements in the area. These vehicles include UNAMID vehicles, International agencies operating in the area as well as national NGOs.

 

A UNAMID vehicle driven by a United Nations Volunteer (UNV) was car-jacked on 31 October 2008, near a United Nations guest house in Nyala, Sector South, by two armed men in civilian clothes and carrying a guns and a knife.

 

The driver was robbed of personal possessions but unharmed, however, he lost his UN Identity card, hand held radio and some personal items. The incident was reported to the Government of Sudan police and National Intelligence for Safety and Security (NISS).
