Democratic Republic of the Congo / EU High Representative for the CFSP extremely concerned about the latest developments in North Kivu

 

KINSHASA, Dem. Rep. of Congo (DRC) October 29, 2008/African Press Organization (APO)/ — Javier SOLANA, EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP), is extremely concerned at the deteriorating situation in North Kivu and urges all parties in the conflict, in particular the CNDP, to show utmost restraint.

 

Civilians are once again the main victims of the current violence.

 

Mr Solana commends the remarkable work carried the MONUC on the ground, in a very difficult context. He denounces all those who target the MONUC.

 

The High Representative is in constant contact with President Kabila, the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, and leaders in the region to discuss the latest military developments in North Kivu, in particular in the vicinity of the city of Goma.
