UNAMID Force Medal Parade


UNAMID Force Headquarters organized its first ever medal parade. The ceremony was held in the football stadium of El Fasher, in North Darfur in the presence of UANMID Deputy Joint Special Representative (DJSR), Operations and Management, Mr. Hocine Medili; the Force Commander, General Martin Luther Agwai; the Deputy Force Commander, Major General Emmanuel Kareke Kerenzi; and senior officials. The Deputy Governor of North Darfur, Mr. Idriss Abdalla Hassan, was also present at the ceremony.

The address delivered by the DJSR, on behalf of the Joint Special Representative, outlined the purpose of the ceremony which was organized in honor of the soldiers from the Force Headquarters serving as staff officers, observers, liaison officers and from national contingents, for their contribution to maintaining peace and security in Darfur.

Medals were presented to Force Headquarters senior staff officers, and the officers and men and women from the Egyptian, Gambian and Rwandan Contingent.  

Reconnaissance Mission in Sector South.  
On 28 October 2008, a joint team of UNAMID officials and representatives of the Government of Sudan in Sector South conducted a reconnaissance mission to the Localities of Ed Al Fursan, Tullus and Buram Locality, in Sector South with the aim of discussing the issue of land allocation to UNAMID.
Similar visits are planned to Menawashi and Tullus.

UNAMID Sector South Receives newly appointed Government of Sudan Representatives

On 28 October 2008, UNAMID Sector South Commander received the newly appointed Government of Sudan Liaison Officer to UNAMID. They discussed issues of cooperation and coordination between Government of Sudan and UNAMID.

UNAMID Police Advisers conduct Mine Awareness Campaign


27 October 2007- UNAMID police advisers, in collaboration with the Mine Action team and accompanied by protection force, conducted a lecture on mine awareness at Labado Boys School in Labado, Sector South. The team was also accompanied by the Sudan Liberation Army/Minawi (SLA/M) Police Commander and local leaders,

 Following the lecture, the police advisers and Mine Action team, together with the SLA/M Commander, proceeded 8 km north of Labado market, where an unexploded ordinance (UXO) was located and earmarked for destruction.

The team returned to base where they had a preparatory meeting with Protection Force Commander, military observers and civilian police, for a similar exercise to be conducted in Muhajeria and other areas in Sector South.

Car-jacking in Nyala        


A vehicle belonging to an International NGO in Nyala, Sector South was car-jacked on 28 October 2008, by six armed men in civilian clothes.
The incident was reported to the Government of Sudan Police and Military Intelligence officers.
