MINURCAT Launches the Détachement intégré de Sécurité (DIS) Deployment in Eastern Chad
NDJAMENA, Chad, October 24, 2008/African Press Organization (APO)/ — The United Nations Mission in the Central African Republic and Chad (MINURCAT) is deploying to eastern Chad the first contingent of the Détachement intégré de Sécurité (DIS) this Friday, 24 October 2008.
This deployment concerns an initial 100 DIS elements who will leave from N’Djamena in batches of 25 following a timetable agreed upon between the authorities of the country and MINURCAT. The deployment will take place under the authority of the DIS Command recently appointed by presidential decree. The Command comprises a Central Commander assisted by two deputies, one in charge of the Operations of DIS and the other of the Administration.
In addition, MINURCAT has just completed the training of 111 new DIS elements, who will now join 320 others already trained. The graduation ceremony for the new trainees will be take place on Tuesday, 28 October, in N’Djamena.
According to the UN Security Council Resolution 1778 (2007), MINURCAT is expected to train a total of 850 DIS elements.
