UNAMID Police conducts night patrols in Kalma Internally Displaced Persons camp (IDP)

 

A team of Police Advisers from Nyala, Sector South Headquarters, together with the Bangladeshi Formed Police Unit (FPU), have embarked on confidence building and security assessment patrols 24 hours a day, seven days a week at the Kalma camp as per UNAMID Police mandate.

 

The primary focus of these patrols is, for UNAMID Police, not only to conduct confidence building, but also create an interactive and friendly environment conducive to peaceful co-existence between Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) as well as demonstrate the commitment of UNAMID to achieving lasting peace in the region.

 

 

Update on UNAMID Police Convoys

On 13 October 2008, UNAMID Police undertook its 8th convoy from El Obeid to Darfur, a distance of about 900 km, travelling in 35 vehicles and carrying contingent owned equipments (COE). The convoy was accompanied by the Government of Sudan Reserve police, which provided security escort along the route.

As the previous ones, which first was from 9 to 15 June 2008, this convoy was part of UNAMID Police confidence-building strategy to establish contacts with the local population along the route as well as develop better working relations with the local police.

 

Carjack at Mukjar

A vehicle belonging to the Triangle (International NGO) was carjacked at Bergei, 12 km from Mukjar UNAMID camp, Sector West, by unknown armed men. The carjackers took one satellite phone and money from the Triangle staff and fled with their car towards the Chadian border.
