ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia, October 15, 2008/African Press Organization (APO)/ — The Chairperson of the Commission wishes to announce that, after consultation with the African Union, the Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela has postponed the second Africa-South America Summit scheduled to take place in that country from 24 to 29 November 2008.
The postponement is at the request of a number of African Leaders who would like to participate in the Follow-up International Conference on Finalizing for Development being organized by the United Nations in Doha, Qatar and which is to take place from 29 November to 2
December 2008.
Although the exact dates for the Summit will be determined after due consultation with all parties concerned, it is expected that it will now take place within the 1st quarter of 2009.
The Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and the Commission regret any inconvenience the postponement might have caused but consider that it is for a good cause. They hope that the pace of preparations will continue so as to ensure a successful Summit in 2009.
