
Egypt / Sweden / Bengt Wadensjö new Director of Swedish Institute in Alexandria
ALEXANDRIA, Egypt, October 2, 2008/African Press Organization (APO)/ — The Government has today appointed Bishop Emeritus Bengt Wadensjö as the new director of the Swedish Institute in Alexandria.
“I am very pleased that Bengt Wadensjö has agreed to take on this assignment. With him as director, the Institute will gain new points of contact and new impulses for dialogue between different cultures,” says Minister for International Development Cooperation Gunilla Carlsson.
The Swedish Institute in Alexandria is responsible for promoting contact between Sweden and the rest of Europe and countries in the Middle East region. The Institute deals with issues that are central to the political, social and economic development of the region. The Institute is also responsible for fostering greater mutual understanding in the areas of culture and religion.
Bishop Wadensjö was born in 1937. He was appointed Associate Professor at Uppsala University in 1971 and was Bishop of the Diocese of Karlstad in 1986-2002.
