Ghana / Third High Level Forum on Aid Effectiveness

ACCRA, Ghana, August 23, 2008/African Press Organization (APO)/ — Media representatives are invited to attend the international Third High Level Forum on Aid Effectiveness, which will take place in Accra, Ghana from September 2-4, 2008.

Over 1,000 representatives from developing countries, bilateral and multilateral aid agencies, global funds, and civil society organizations will meet to review progress on improving the effectiveness of international development aid and chart a course for future work. Ministers of Finance and the heads of development agencies are expected to endorse the Accra Agenda for Action, a set of commitments to accelerate implementation of the aid effectiveness agenda.

Among the topics to be discussed are increasing country ownership of the development process; creating broader partnerships that include nontraditional donors, global funds, civil society, and the private sector; establishing an appropriate ?division of labor? among donors in a country; and the implications of the aid effectiveness agenda for gender equality, environmental quality, fragile and conflict-affected states, and middle-income countries.

The High Level Forum is hosted by the Government of Ghana and is sponsored by the African Development Bank, Asian Development Bank, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, Inter-American Development Bank, Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, United Nations Development Programme, and the World Bank; it is also supported by 20 other agencies and countries.
