RISING FOOD PRICES: AUDIO CONFERENCE CALL WITH WFP EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
ROME – WFP is making an extraordinary emergency appeal to governments to help it deal with the impact of soaring food and fuel prices on its efforts to feed the world’s poor and hungry in 2008.
WFP Executive Director Josette Sheeran sent a letter (attached) to donors on March 20, urging them to be as generous as possible in helping close the critical gap created in the agency’s programmes around the world. On 15 February, WFP announced a US$500 million funding gap.
Ms Sheeran will be available to answer journalists’ questions today at 3 pm Central European Time (1400 GMT). If you would like to take part, please dial in, following the instructions below.
